Does The New Apple Watch Monitor Blood Pressure

As Ceo Of A Digital Health Company Its Embarrassing To Admit But This Is The First Time I Ever Wanted A Wearable Device For Myself

Does Apple Watch 6 measure blood pressure?

I donât know if itâs because it enables you to do cool things like texting from your shower or paying just by swiping your wrist in the air. Maybe itâs the fashionable positioning that Apple created by placing it for display along with the biggest fashion luxury brands on Paris fashion week, or maybe itâs just the âApple magicâ – but whatever it is it just works and I want one.Yesterday, I went by the Apple store and found myself staring at the red banded golden watch from the limited edition for 20 minutes, even though there is no chance I can buy it . The only other place this has ever happened to me was at a Marc Jacobs store and that says it all. The Apple Watch is not a geeky product, itâs a top fashion desirable product for men and women that is defining an entirely new category in the market.

Apple Watch May Get Thermometer Blood

These health features reportedly won’t show up until 2022 at the earliest.

Apple reportedly has some ambitious health features in store for future versions of its Apple Watch. The tech giant is working on giving the Apple Watch a “tool to tell users when their blood pressure is increasing and a thermometer to help with fertility planning,” according to a report Wednesday from The Wall Street Journal.

The fertility feature could be available as soon as next year, said the Journal, citing unnamed sources and internal Apple documents. The company is also reportedly working on improvements to the Apple Watch’s irregular-heartbeat monitoring and sleep tracking, which could be available next year.

Apple has made health and fitness one of the key elements of the Apple Watch. With the Apple Watch Series 6 last year, Apple introduced a sensor that can measure blood oxygen level and unveiled Fitness Plus, a subscription service offering workout routines and more. The continued push to add more sensors and health tools could help keep the Apple Watch ahead of competitors also looking to secure a place on people’s wrists by offering improved health tech.

Complicated Redesign And New Sensor Are Delaying Mass Manufacturing

By Adrian PotoroacaSeptember 1, 2021, 7:37

Why it matters: Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch Series 7 this month, marking the first redesign since the Series 4 and bringing an important health monitoring upgrade in the form of a blood pressure sensor. However, fans looking forward to buying one will probably have to wait several weeks before they’ll be able to get it, as manufacturing issues have delayed mass production until later this month.

The upcoming Apple Watch seems to have hit some production issues due to the device sporting a “complicated design.” According to separate reports from Nikkei Asia and Bloomberg, the new device will enter mass production at a later date than initially planned and is expected to be available in limited quantities at launch.

Apple suppliers began trial production runs for the Apple Watch Series 7 last week, but the new chassis has proven difficult to make within the tight tolerances required by the Cupertino tech giant. Assembling the components of the new wearable is also taking longer than with previous generations, as it requires more steps to complete, and the final product needs to meet requirements for water-resistance performance.

Production has been “temporarily halted” while Apple and its suppliers iron out the kinks in the manufacturing process and to “further certify designs before going into mass production.”

Apple Watch Likely To Gain Blood Pressure Blood Glucose And Blood Alcohol Monitoring

The Apple Watch may gain the ability to measure blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood alcohol levels, according to newly-revealed information about one of Apple’s chosen business partners.

Apple has been revealed to be the largest customer of the British electronics start-up Rockley Photonics, The Telegraph reports.

Rockley Photonics has developed non-invasive optical sensors for detecting multiple blood-related health metrics, including blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood alcohol levels, many of which are only normally detectable with more invasive dedicated medical equipment. Rockley’s sensors beam infrared light through a user’s skin, much like the existing sensors on the back of the Apple Watch for detecting heart rate and blood oxygen levels.

Rockley’s disclosure that its biggest client is Apple came about as the company prepares to go public in New York. The company’s filings said that Apple accounted for the majority of its revenue over the last two years and that it has an ongoing “supply and development agreement” with the company, under which it expects to continue to heavily rely on Apple for most of its revenue.

Given the growth of Rockley Photonics and the scale of Apple’s partnership with the company, it seems to be virtually inevitable that the company’s health sensor technology will be coming to the Apple Watch sooner rather than later.

What You Need To Know

Connecting Your Blood Pressure Monitor to an Apple Phone
  • Apple has been granted a patent that could bring blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch.
  • It appears that the patent may be part of a larger project the company is working on.

As reported by Patently Apple, Apple has been granted a second major patent that could bring blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch. The company received the first patent related to the feature back in December.

According to the patents, Apple’s blood pressure montioring could be done in a non-invasive way.

As a quick review of the base invention, Apple’s patent generally relates to the measuring and monitoring of blood pressure. More specifically, embodiments may determine and apply one or more correction factors for calculating or adjusting a measured blood pressure to provide for a more accurate blood pressure measurement. This may be particularly beneficial with blood pressure measurement devices that may be worn by a user that non-invasively measure and monitor blood pressure of a user.

While blood pressure montoring in the Apple Watch is definitely one of the major health features expected to come to the device, shrinking the monitor down into the watch will be difficult.

The outlet highlights that Apple’s new patent may be part of a larger project that could include either blood pressure monitoring being built into the Apple Watch and perhaps even a new device.

Tech Giant Seeks To Push Past Obstacles In Adding Health Features On Your Wrist

Apple Inc. AAPL 0.36% is working on new health-related features for its smartwatch, including a tool to tell users when their blood pressure is increasing and a thermometer to help with fertility planning, according to people familiar with the plans and internal company documents.

The fertility feature could be available as soon as next year, along with potential improvements to its irregular-heartbeat monitoring and an upgrade to how it tracks sleep patterns, the people said and the documents show.

The company is expected to release its seventh version of the Apple Watch in the coming weeks, according to analysts, but most of its more ambitious health-related improvements arent expected before 2022.

Beyond next year, Apple wants its smartwatch to be able to detect sleep apnea, provide medical guidance when it senses low blood oxygen levels and, perhaps one day, spot diabetes, according to the documents and some of the people.

Features, especially those being studied for release in later years, might never be rolled out to consumers or timing could change, cautioned people familiar with the companys plans.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.

History Of Apple Watch

Steve Jobs is a big name in the whole globe in the field of business. Tim Cook has massive time to fill shoes after being Chief Executive at Apple world number one brand.

Cook was that person who announced that Apples step forward into the watch world. The top world brand introduced this in 2014 but he has to spend years and years in the race of watches for making it wonderful.

  • Filing round about the 70 patents which belong to the new technology piece.

When Is This Coming To Apple Watch

Apple Watch blood pressure | Exercise for high blood pressure

These patents were filed in 2017, so Apple has now been sitting on this technology for a few years now. Could we see Apple Watch measuring blood pressure inside the next year or two? Its possible. But Apple will want to make sure the apparatus that makes this possible works 100% correctly and that could prove tricky. Itll also need to do thousands of hours of real-world tests to make sure the data it records is accurate.

On top of this, Apple will have to find a way to convince people to ditch their traditional, medically backed blood pressure measurement units in favor of a new strap for their Apple Watch. Finally, Apple will need to assess whether there is even demand for such a thing. I mean, most people might be fine with their current blood pressure measurement setup and not want to pay $100-$200 for an Apple Watch accessory that might not be as accurate.

Either way, the patents show Apples long-standing commitment to making Apple Watch the #1 wearable for tracking health metrics. Just recently, Apple added the ability to more accurately track heart rate fluctuations by improving Apple Watchs EEG technology. Adding in the ability to monitor blood pressure seems like the next obvious step for Apple Watchs health capabilities

Apple Watch Glucose And Blood Pressure Sensors Probably Not Arriving Anytime Soon

For years, it has been suggested that Apple could be working on a way for the Apple Watch to measure the glucose levels of the wearer in a noninvasive manner. We have also heard talks about Apple possibly introducing a blood pressure sensor as well. While those features are still a possibility, we probably shouldnt expect them anytime soon.

This is according to Bloombergs Mark Gurman, where in his latest Power On newsletter, he claims that these are features that we probably shouldnt expect anytime soon. According to Gurman, he says that he wouldnt be surprised if glucose monitoring would only arrive in the second half of the decade, meaning that 2025 will be the earliest.

The same is also being said of the blood pressure monitor, where Gurman expects it to only arrive in the next 2-3 years at least. That being said, other companies such as Samsung have already introduced blood pressure monitoring with their latest smartwatches. However, the downside is that it will require users to constantly calibrate it with an actual blood pressure monitor, so perhaps Apples solution would not require that.

In any case, for those hoping to see these features in the Apple Watch Series 8, dont hold your breath. If anything, the Series 8 will probably come with a brand new design but what other features we can expect remains to be seen.
