My Doctor Wants To Compare The Reading From My Home Bp Monitor With The Reading Taken In The Office What Are The Instructions On How To Do This

When doing this type of a comparison, it is very important that the measurements are taken in a certain manner in order for the reading on the Omron monitor to be accurate. The Omron monitor uses oscillometric technology that measures the vibration of the blood as it moves through the arteries. The doctor is using a different method of measurement and listens to the sound of your heart. It is necessary for the doctor to take the first measurement using the Omron monitor. The brachial artery is fully open and not restricted so vibration of the blood is accurately measured. It is also important to note that the different test methods may give slightly different readings due to the test methods or due to the normal fluctuation in blood pressure.

How To Use Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor

First, you should be lying down with your arm straight out while the cuff wraps around your upper arm so that it fits snugly but not too tight. Once this has been achieved, press the start button and wait up to 60 seconds for the results of your reading.

The monitor will let you know when you need to stop at which point you can read off both systolic and diastolic pressures on the devices screen. It may take some time before one becomes accustomed to using automatic blood pressure monitors however, once properly calibrated these devices do provide more accurate readings than manual monitors.

When taking your blood pressure at home, it is important to use a reliable and accurate device in order to get the most accurate readings possible. In this article, we will discuss the best blood pressure monitors for home use, as well as how to use them properly for the most accurate results.

Are Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors Less Accurate Than Manual Aneroid/ Mercury Ones

Omron Series 10 Blood Pressure Monitors: Will They Work ...

1: Difference in measurement technology

  • Auscultation methods rely on the observers ability to listen for the pulse as they inflate and deflate the cuff.
  • Healthcare professionals are trained to conduct the manual blood pressure measurement accurately. However, the untrained patient who is told by his / her doctor to measure the blood pressure at home, may find it difficult to do so correctly.
  • Hence we need a reliable and repeatable measurement technology that enables anyone to measure blood pressure outside of the medical environment. Automatic blood pressure monitors have sensors and highly developed algorithms for blood pressure measurement. With this, the measurers subjective view is excluded, and surrounding noises do not interrupt the measurements.

2: Automatic blood pressure measurement does not require regular calibration

3: Not all digital blood pressure monitors are equal

4: Accounting for human error

  • Biases associated with manual blood pressure readings
  • There are numerous studies related to end-digital preference when recording manual blood pressure measurements where physicians are observed to round off the measurements to the nearest 5 and 0 value.*
  • This may adversely affect the treatment and management of patients stemming from over- or under-diagnosis.
  • With a digital monitor, this bias is negated.
  • Inaccuracies due to incorrect cuff choice and placement
  • Hence Omron constantly innovates to overcome such user-related challenges.

Blood Pressure Monitors That Link To Your Smartphone Or Tablet

Some blood pressure monitors can link wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet. This is great if you want to view and track your readings electronically and store data across your devices, especially if you already track other health data on your phone or tablet, such as activity levels, calories or weight, and want it all in one place.

However, this functionality is certainly not essential, and you’ll pay a premium for this technology.

How Do I Know If I Have Put On The Arm Cuff Correctly

We recommend you apply the cuff using the following directions. First, make sure you have removed any tight-fitting clothing from your left arm. Put your left arm through the cuff loop. The bottom of the cuff should be about one-half inch above your elbow. Turn your arm so your palm is facing up. Adjust the cuff around your arm so that the tubing runs down the center of your arm. Secure the cuff so it stays in place.

What Happens Once Youve Had The Results Of Your 24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor

Youll have to wait for the results to be analysed. Well, if your surgery is anything like mine. For me personally I had to drop my 24 hour blood pressure monitor back and then had to wait a few days for my GP to assess the results. This was frustrating but such is the life in the over stretched NHS!

You may have to have medication. Alternatively you may have to visit hospital to have further tests carried out depending on what your results are.

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is a great way for medics to find out if youre genuinely suffering high blood pressure or if it is stress related by white coat syndrome.

Using The Wrong Cuff Size For Your Arm

Just because the cuff may fit around your arm does not mean it is the right size cuff for you. The correct cuff size is directly related to the circumference of your arm. To get accurate readings, it is important that you are using the correct sized arm cuff. To determine your arm size, use a cloth tape measure and place midway between your elbow and your shoulder around the circumference of your upper arm. Wrap the tape measure evenly around your arm. Do not pull the tape tight. Note the precise measurement in inches. Select an Omron home blood pressure monitor with the right size of cuff included, or if you already have the monitor, and need a different sized cuff, contact our consumer support line at , and they can assist you to purchase the right size accessory cuff for your unit.
