Apps To Track Your Blood Pressure

How to Check Blood Pressure Without Equipment (In Just 1 Minute)

Although there are apps that promise to check your blood pressure without using equipment, this isnt an accurate or reliable method.

However, there are apps that can help you track your blood pressure results. This can be helpful in identifying patterns in your blood pressure. Your doctor may use this information to determine if you require blood pressure medications.

Some examples of free apps to monitor blood pressure include:

  • Blood Pressure Monitor Family Lite for iOS. With this app, you can enter your blood pressure, weight, and height, as well as track the medications you take.
  • Blood Pressure for Android. This app tracks your blood pressure and features several statistical and graphical analysis tools.
  • Blood Pressure Companion for iOS and macOS. This app allows you to track your blood pressure as well as view graphs and trends on your blood pressure readings across several days or weeks.

These apps can help you quickly and easily track your blood pressure readings. Measuring your blood pressure regularly on the same arm can help you most accurately track your blood pressure readings.

Look For Your Carotid Artery

The second step is to find the carotid artery that runs through the neck. Please see the diagram above.

Again, its important to understand that this is a rough estimate that only tells you if your systolic blood pressure is not low.

  • Press lightly until you feel a pulse.
  • Do not press too hard as this restricts blood flow.
  • A palpated pulse on the carotid artery means that the heart is pumping a pressure of 60-70 mm Hg.

Tips For Getting An Accurate Blood Pressure Reading

To accurately monitor your blood pressure over time, you shouldn’t just plop down in a chair whenever to do a reading. Instead, you should implement some simple practices that help ensure accuracy.

1. Take your blood pressure at the same time of day for every new recording.

2. Avoid caffeine and alcohol at least 30 minutes prior to your reading.

3. Avoid exercise within 30 minutes of taking your blood pressure.

4. Sit up straight and be still throughout the measurement.

5. Take multiple measurements and record all of the results with the date and time.

6. Don’t wear the blood pressure cuff over clothes.

Your blood pressure should be easy to read on a digital monitor, like this one.

How Do I Know If My Monitor Is Accurate Or If I Am Using It Correctly

Once you buy your device, have your doctor check it for accuracy. They should check your monitor once a year. On your own, periodically check the tubing for cracks and leaks. Proper care and storage are necessary. Make sure the tubing is not twisted when you store it. Keep it away from heat.

Ask your doctor or nurse to teach you how to use your blood pressure monitor correctly. This will help you achieve good results in controlling your blood pressure.

Current Drawbacks Of Cuff

Fingertip Oximeter Heart Rate Monitor Blood Pressure Oximetry Without ...

Several limitations pertain to the currently available cuff-less BP technology.

Second, the current measurement methods based on PTT and tonometry are sensitive to motion artifact and loss of signal upon movement. In several of the aforementioned studies on cuff-less PTT-based devices, researchers encountered a high rate of measurement errors and calibration errors . Tonometry-based cuff-less devices need to be tightly coupled to the underlying artery usually with an adhesive tape to prevent loss of coupling and loss of measurements .

Additionally, the software and data transfer on the back end of most of the cuff-less BP measurement modalities is critically underdeveloped. This is a clinically relevant concern, since frequent BP self-measurement without a co-intervention from a healthcare provider does not seem to affect BP control much .

Finally, for all of the current cuff-less BPT technologies, it is presently unclear how the measured values in real life will relate to clinical or cuff-based home BP measurements. Because cuff-less methods make it much easier to perform measurements on the go, it is likely that these measurements are substantially different from resting BP values. Prospective clinical studies would need to assess how these measurements compare to conventional BP measurements, and what values or trends are ultimately associated with adverse outcomes. This would provide a scientific basis for medication adjustments using cuff-less BPT.

How To Use A Blood Pressure Cuff At Home

You could always inflate a manual sphygmomanometer with a hand pump and count Korotkoff sounds in your head, but why would you when wireless, digital blood pressure monitors are so readily available these days? They don’t have to be expensive, either: Some models sell for less than $30 a unit.

Plus, you’re way more likely to get an accurate blood pressure reading if you use a digital cuff — there’s less room for error. To take your blood pressure at home with a digital blood pressure monitor, all you have to do is:

1. Slide the blood pressure cuff onto your upper arm and secure it so that it sits snugly about one inch above the crease of your elbow.

2. If you have an automatic model, simply push the button that inflates the cuff. If you have a manual model, use the hand pump to inflate the cuff.

3. After the cuff fully inflates, air will automatically start flowing back out.

4. Look at the screen to get your blood pressure reading.

5. If you need to repeat the measurement, wait a few minutes before attempting a new reading.

At-home, digital blood pressure monitors can be worn on the wrist or upper arm, depending on what model you choose.

Before You Measure Your Blood Pressure

  • Avoid things that can raise your blood pressure in the short term. Dont measure your blood pressure within half an hour of eating, smoking, drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, or exercising. These can all raise your blood pressure temporarily. If you need to use the toilet, go before you measure your blood pressure.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes. Wear a short-sleeved t-shirt or something with sleeves you can push up easily, nothing tight. This is so that you can fit the cuff around your arm.
  • Rest for five minutes before you take your reading. Sit down somewhere quiet, ideally at a desk or table. Have your back supported with your arm resting on a firm surface and your feet flat on the floor. Stay in this position while you take your blood pressure.
  • Make sure your arm is supported and at the same level as your heart. Position yourself so that your arm is resting on a surface and is at the same height as your heart. Keep your arm and hand relaxed, not tensed.
  • Make sure you are relaxed and comfortable. If you are anxious or uncomfortable, your blood pressure will rise temporarily.

How Do You Check Your Blood Pressure With Your Fingers

  • How Do You Check Your Blood Pressure With Your Fingers? Center
  • Most doctors recommend the use of a blood pressure machine to check blood pressure. An individual may check heart rate with their fingers, but not blood pressure. Data shows checking blood pressure using fingers may not be accurate though there is an obscure method to correlate the pulse reading with systolic blood pressure. Blood pressure must be always measured using validated equipment.

Place the fingers on the inside of the wrist to locate the pulse. Now, take two fingers and place them just below the wrist creases on the thumb side of the hand. A strong pulse felt at the wrist correlates to the systolic blood pressure of at least 80 mmHg. This method is not always correct and hence not recommended.

It is important to use the correct technique to obtain an accurate measurement. Blood pressure is the force the blood exerts on the sides of the blood vessels as it moves ahead and is an important indicator of health. The pulse will give the basic information required to estimate the systolic blood pressure . Keep in mind this is a very rough estimate and only indicates if the systolic blood pressure is not low. Blood pressure monitoring should be done with a cuff and a stethoscope. However, recent advances in technology have made budget-friendly automatic blood pressure monitors easily available in pharmacies.

Blood Pressure Reading Expression And Unit Of Measurement

How to Check Blood Pressure Without Equipment (In Just 1 Minute)

Determining blood pressure and units is easy. Blood pressure is usually expressed in two numbers: systolic and diastolic. The first is the maximum pressure when the heart contracts, and it is highest. The second is the lowest pressure and its when the heart relaxes between two contractions of the heart muscles.

Both systolic and diastolic pressures are measured in millimetres of mercury above the ambient atmospheric pressure.

The ideal blood pressure is 90/60 to 120/80 mmHg. Lets say you have checked your blood pressure and it reads 90/70 mmHg. The first number 90 is referred to as your systolic pressure and the second number 60 is referred to as your diastolic blood pressure.

If both of these pressure is too high, it means that the pressure in your arteries and heart is too high. This is called high blood pressure and can lead to acute heart attacks and even strokes.

The following chart is a guideline for the diagnosis of different stages or categories of hypertension published by the American College of Cardiology in November 2017.

These guidelines emphasize the importance of using the correct blood pressure measurement technique. It is advisable to monitor blood pressure at home using approved equipment for accurate readings since high blood pressure is a silent killer.

To achieve this you would have to check yourself regularly at home or in a medical facility with handcuffs to see if your blood pressure is normal.

Your blood pressure measure the force your blood exerts on the sides of the blood vessels as it moves around your body and is an important indicator of your health. Blood pressure monitoring should be done with a cuff and a stethoscope instruments that most people do not have at home, but are necessary for an accurate reading. If you want to check if your systolic blood pressure is normal, you can use your pulse for a rough estimate. Diastolic blood pressure must always be done with an arm cuff or stethoscope.XResearch source

Measuring Blood Pressure Without A Stethoscope

If you only have a cuff and a mercury- or bellows-type manometer and no stethoscope, you can measure a personâs systolic blood pressure by:

1 Putting the cuff around the arm .

2 Inflate it until the arteryâs pulse can no longer be felt .

    3 Gradually release the pressure.

4 At the point at which you start feeling the pulse again, register the pressure on the manometer. This is the systolic pressure.

Advantages of this measuring technique are:

    * No stethoscope is required.

    Unaware Of High Blood Pressure

Most people do not have any special symptoms of hypertension, so they live unaware of the disease. Apparently, people who look healthy and fit in every way can also suffer from high blood pressure, but they are unaware of it. However, in severe cases, the symptoms of high blood pressure appear. These symptoms include nose bleeds, headaches, insomnia, anxiety and confusion, and breathing problems.

If hypertension is not treated, the chances of having a heart attack and stroke are multiplied. Many major diseases can be prevented by treating hypertension. If left untreated, in addition to heart attacks and strokes, heart failure can be preceded by a gradual impairment of the ability to pump blood, kidney failure, poor eyesight, and eye diseases. When left untreated, hypertension can dilate and rupture the central artery through the abdomen and chest, with dangerous consequences.

Remember That This Reading Is Normally Accurate

You should know that electronic blood pressure monitors are highly accurate at measuring BP. The most significant variable that can impact your readings is your current set and setting. If you are stressed out while watching a movie, for example, it can raise your heart rate. This is why it is so important to be relaxed while doing readings.

Which Measures Of Blood Pressure Are Clinically Important

There are potentially three major measures of blood pressure that could contribute to the adverse effects of hypertension. The first is the average or true level, the second is the diurnal variation, and the third the short-term variability.

    Average clinic blood pressure

Presently, epidemiologic and clinical data are available only for the average level of blood pressure. In clinical practice, a patients blood pressure is typically characterized by a single value of the systolic and diastolic pressures, to denote the average level. Such readings are normally taken in a clinic setting, but there is extensive evidence that in hypertensive patients, clinic pressures are consistently higher than the average 24-hour pressures recorded with ambulatory monitors. This overestimation by clinic readings of the true pressure at high levels of pressure and underestimation at low levels has been referred to as the regression dilution bias and means that the slope of the line relating blood pressure and cardiovascular morbidity should be steeper for the true blood pressure than for the clinic pressure.

    Points To Take Into Account

The average of young people and healthy adults have a blood pressure of 120/80. Pregnant women, however, tend to have higher blood pressure.

Adolescents, on the other hand, can often have lower values, such as 110/70 millimeters of mercury .

Adolescents between the ages of 13 and 15 often experience fluctuations in blood pressure readings.

This is perfectly normal since they often undergo stress, as well as physical changes in their body by the hormones that trigger during adolescence.

However, the latent danger of hypertension in young people of this age can not be neglected, since there are millions of cases due to diets full of sugars, sodium, carbohydrates and fats.

This, together with the lack of physical exercise, leads to numerous cases of obesity, a condition that also generates new physical and psychological problems that must be addressed without fail.
