This past November, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology issued new guidelines for when high blood pressure should be treated. For the first time in 14 years, theres no more prehypertension. If your blood pressure is running over 130/80, you officially have high blood pressure.

I never gave much thought to my blood pressure. Its always been spot on at 120/80 or a little bit lower . But like the rest of the world, Im getting a bit older, and Ive been dealing with some stressful stuff in my life recently, and apparently, its starting to affect my blood pressure. Best Times To Drink Alkaline Water

Since alkaline water is alkaline, there are certain times when we shouldnt drink it to avoid messing with the stomach pH when it shouldnt be messed with.

Heres a list of considerations:

  • Dont drink alkaline water while eating or 1/2 hour before and after meals. Since alkaline water can temporarily raise stomach pH, we dont want to mess with stomach acids while theyre doing their job to digest our food.
  • Drink alkaline water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Personally, this is my favorite time of day to drink it. I always get an extra boost of energy by drinking it right when I wake up.
  • Drink it throughout the day between meals.
  • Try to drink at least one glass before bed, just not so much that it makes you wake up in the middle of the night. Doing this dilutes the sodium in the body. Going to bed dehydrated leads to thickened blood in the morning. People with high blood pressure obviously want to avoid this.

Another tip:

I find that we need different amounts of water every day, depending on what activities we do that day. A day full of exercise or sweat requires more water than a day lounging inside.
