How Do I Use A Blood Pressure Monitor
Common Reasons For Errors Or Incorrect Readings
As you can see, improper form or device errors are the main cause for most error messages and incorrect readings. Here are some of the most common causes for these issues:
- Too much movement: Any movement you make during the measurement can cause dramatic fluctuations in the pressure being measured.
- Cuff not fitting properly: If your cuff is too large or too small, or is wrapped too tightly or loosely around your arm, you may not get an accurate measurement or your device may not be able to properly register a measurement.
- Blocked air hose or leaks: Your devices air hose could be blocked, or you may there may be a leak in the hose, connector or cuff. You can check for leaks by listening to the hose, connector and cuff for the sound of air. Be sure that youre not pinching the hose and dont have it knotted or wrapped around anything.
- Improper cuff position on arm: You want to hold your upper arm at heart level, with a bit of space between your arm and your side, otherwise you can distort the pressure signals in the cuff, throwing off the reading or causing an error message to pop up.
- Low batteries: This is often the cause of a cuff not inflating, as your devices pump requires a certain amount of power to inflate your cuff. Even with weak batteries, if the cuff takes too long to inflate, your measurement could time out and end with an error code. Check for a low battery symbol on your device and replace them if needed.
Can I Use My Kinetik Wellbeing Blood Pressure Monitor If I Suffer From Atrial Fibrillation
The WBP1 has not been tested on those with atrial fibrillation, therefore we cannot recommend its use. Please consider the BPX1, BXP1A, BPX2 or BPX1W blood pressure monitors which are all suitable for use. You can use these BPMs if you suffer from atrial fibrillation. However, if you want to get accurate readings, we cannot recommend their use. At the moment, there is no blood pressure monitor on the market that can factor atrial fibrillation into a blood pressure measurement. What we can do is alert the user if an Irregular Heartbeat is detected during the measurement, which may indicate that the reading is not accurate our BPX2 and BPX1W have the Irregular Heartbeat feature.

How To Use Your Blood Pressure Monitor
Taking care of your heart health is important. However, taking your own blood pressure measurements can seem daunting at first. But it doesnt have to be. Here is our quick and easy guide to a healthier and more confident you.
In order to get an accurate measurement, it is important to follow these rules:
- Always take readings at the same time of day, under the same conditions. Always measure on the same arm. The left arm is recommended.
- Do not take a measurement within 30 minutes of smoking, drinking coffee or tea or any form of exertion. These factors will influence the measurement.
- Ensure at least 5 minutes of quiet rest before measurements. If possible, it is recommended to rest 10 minutes before taking the measurement. Try to always use the same resting time before taking a measurement.
- If you want to take multiple measurements, wait approximately 3 minutes before repeating a measurement.
Tips For Getting An Accurate Blood Pressure Reading

Along with error messages, you may be getting blood pressure readings that just dont seem right. While your blood pressure could genuinely be elevated due to diet, stress or other factors, you may accidentally be throwing things off. Follow these steps to be sure youre getting the most accurate blood pressure reading possible:
- Dont talk during the measurement. Talking during a test can add up to 10 points to your reading.
- Place the cuff on your bare skin, half an inch above the bend in your elbow. Having clothing between the cuff and your skin can add up to 50mmHG to a reading.
- Keep your feet flat on the floor and your legs uncrossed. Crossing your legs squeezes your veins, which can raise your reading.
- Dont drink caffeine or smoke within 30 minutes of a test. Caffeine and nicotine can both raise your blood pressure.

When Does A Blood Pressure Monitor Need Calibrating
Blood Pressure Monitors that are used at least 5 times a day have to be calibrated once a year and this particularly applies to Health Care Practitioners. In the case of home use, it is recommended that these monitors are re-calibrated every 3 years based on amount of use.
Calibration isnt cheap and we have found a way to subsidise those costs and reduce the waiting time that customers face. All you need to do is send your old device to:

What Is The Difference Between Systolic And Diastolic Pressure
Your heart is just like a pump which works all the time to make the blood flow through all blood vessels. Blood pressure measures the force on the wall of the blood vessels caused by the pressure of the blood. Systolic pressure is the pressure of the blood when your heart beats to pump blood out. Diastolic pressure is the pressure of the blood when your heart rests in between beats. This reflects how strongly your arteries are resisting blood flow.

This is to account for normal variations between readings. That means that, each time you check your BP, you can expect to see a slightly different result.

Do I Need To Test At The Same Time Every Time
It is important to remember that your blood pressure is constantly changing and can vary massively over 24 hours. Therefore we recommend that you take readings at the same time each day for example, 11am, 2pm and 6pm then after 5 days you can look at the results, average them out and get a more accurate picture of what your blood pressure is, on aver-age, at that time of day. While the devices can be used to give you an on the spot reading of your current pressure, it is highly unlikely you will ever get the same reading twice when measuring subsequently.
