New Evidence That Egg White Protein May Help High Blood Pressure

Do boiled eggs cause high blood pressure?

Note to journalists: Please report that this research was presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society.

NEW ORLEANS, April 9, 2013 Scientists reported new evidence today that a component of egg whites already popular as a substitute for whole eggs among health-conscious consumers concerned about cholesterol in the yolk may have another beneficial effect in reducing blood pressure. Their study was part of the 245th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society , the worlds largest scientific society, which continues here through Thursday.

Our research suggests that there may be another reason to call it the incredible, edible egg, said study leader Zhipeng Yu, Ph.D., of Jilin University. We have evidence from the laboratory that a substance in egg white its a peptide, one of the building blocks of proteins reduces blood pressure about as much as a low dose of Captopril, a high-blood-pressure drug.

Should You Have An Egg With Breakfast Lunch Or Dinner What Is Best

Well, overall, eggs are considered a breakfast food, and thats when most people choose to eat them. You dont have to eat them for breakfast if you decided not to. However, as I said, they are considered a breakfast food, but thats not the only thing

People actually believe that eggs are better for you to eat in the morning than during any other time of day. The protein in eggs takes a long time to digest, so eating them in the morning is the best.

It also gives your body time to digest it before you go to bed that night, when everything in your digestive tract slows down.

So if youre going to eat eggs, and want them to have full effect, eat them in the morning, for breakfast. That will make sure you get all the nutrients and benefits from it that you can.

Tip: Did you know that egg yolk is a substitute for Milk, Cream and Creamers? It can come handy if you drink tea or coffee.

Eggs are a good food to eat if you have high blood pressure. At one time, eating eggs was considered bad for the heart and circulation, based on an assumption that saturated fat was bad. Newer understandings suggest its excess sugar that is worse for long-term health. Any associations between total saturated fat intake, heart disease and blood pressure were not so much due to following a high saturated fat diet, but down to what people werent eating their low intakes of fruit, vegetables and fish.

This may be caused by a damaged thirst mechanism or by limited access to water. When To See A Doctor About High Blood Pressure Symptoms

Does Nicotine Cause High Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure often does not cause any symptoms. So, if you are at the dentist or physicians office and are told that your blood pressure is high, it is important for you to check your blood pressure regularly while not at a doctors office. When blood pressure is very high, it can cause headache, dizziness, unsteadiness, visual disturbances, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Chronic elevated blood pressure causes decreased blood flow to vital organs. Over time this may cause dementia, blindness, heart failure, and kidney failure. When these occur in someone with high blood pressure, it is important to see your doctor, says Dr. Li. Can Egg Whites Lower Blood Pressure

Eggs have often been described as being bad for health due to their high cholesterol content, but recent research has suggested they are healthier than previously believed. Researchers have found new evidence that a component of egg whites have another beneficial effect in reducing blood pressure.

The study was presented at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our research suggests that there may be another reason to call it the incredible, edible egg, said study leader, Zhipeng Yu, Ph.D., of Jilin University, China along with colleagues at Clemson University, South Carolina. They are promising enough to move ahead with further research on the effects of the egg white peptide on human health.

The researchers, based at Jilin University, fed the peptide, called RVPSL, to rats with high blood pressure and found it reduced symptoms of hypertension. The substance, called RVPSL, is an angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor, which has the ability to stop or block the action of ACE, which is produced in the body and raises blood pressure.

The study has found that the egg whites lower blood pressure and did not have toxic effects . We have evidence from the laboratory that a substance in egg white its a peptide, one of the building blocks of proteins reduces blood pressure about as much as a low dose of Captopril, a high blood pressure drug, said Yu.

The Importance Of Salt Restriction

The DASH diet also is low in salt. The average American man takes in 4,200 milligrams of sodium per day. That’s nearly three times what’s healthy. The primary sources of the excess salt are processed foods such as soups, cold cuts, cured meats, frozen dinners and other packaged foods, and breads and snacks. Breads are a particularly underappreciated source of sodiumespecially fast food bagels and croissants. A single serving of these products may contain 500 mg of salt!

The low-salt version of DASH, which works best overall for hypertension, requires cutting back to 1,500 mg of sodium per day, or the amount in two-thirds of a teaspoon of table salt. A moderate-salt version, with 2,200 mg per day, also lowers blood pressure, but not as much as the low-salt plan.

When Is Egg Good For High Blood Pressure

There are a few things when eggs work better for high blood pressure, and the factor that decides whether theyre good for high blood pressure or not is the way theyre cooked.

Before, researchers believed that the best way an egg can be prepared to lower blood pressure is to boil it. However, recently, a high blood pressure medical website from the UK has figured out that fried eggs might even be better for lowering your blood pressure, and might provide more benefits than hard-boiled eggs in general. As they said, while an egg is being cooked, its peptides work to block the production of angiotensin, which could result in an episode of high blood pressure.. So thats the role of an egg in lowering blood pressure, and thats how it actually keeps your blood pressure from rising instead of lowering it, when you eat an egg.

Now that we know when eggs are good for high blood pressure, lets discuss the opposite: when theyre bad for blood pressure.

Add Egg Whites Lower Blood Pressure

A protein found in egg whites may help lower blood pressure almost as well as a common medicine, a preliminary study suggests.

TUESDAY, April 9, 2013 A compound in egg whites may help lower blood pressure as effectively as a common medication, according to new research presented at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans. The findings, which have not been independently reviewed, suggest that combining egg whites with medicine could be a potent one-two punch in fighting high blood pressure in humans, the researchers said.

“Our research suggests that there may be another reason to call it ‘the incredible, edible egg,‘” said Zhipeng Yu, Ph.D., a study author and researcher with Clemson University, said in a statement. “We have evidence from the laboratory that a substance in egg white it’s a peptide, one of the building blocks of proteins reduces blood pressure about as much as a low dose of Captopril, a high-blood-pressure drug.”

Previous research showed that the peptide, called RVPSL, blocks production of an enzyme that raises blood pressure. The Clemson researchers reported that feeding rats levels of RVPSL comparable to the amount contained in six egg whites provided about the same benefit as a low dose of the drug Captopril, which also blocks production of the key blood pressure.

Eating egg whites has also been linked to better control of blood sugar for diabetics and lower cholesterol.

High Sodium Intake And Blood Pressure

The relationship between sodium intake and blood pressure is well established. Populations with a high average salt intake have higher average and higher levels of hypertension . Australians consume nearly double the amount of sodium that is recommended to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.Reducing the amount of salt you have will lower high blood pressure the extent depends on your age, current blood pressure and other factors such as the amount of exercise you do, body weight, stress and alcohol intake.

People with high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease and those who are older or overweight are particularly susceptible to the effect of too much sodium on blood pressure. There is strong evidence that sodium reduction lowers blood pressure in people with normal blood pressure and good evidence that consuming a diet low in sodium reduces blood pressure in children.

Food processing tends to lower the potassium levels in many foods while increasing the sodium content. It is much better to eat unprocessed foods such as fruit, vegetables and lean meats, eggs, fish and other healthy, everyday foods. When selecting processed everyday foods such as wholegrain breads and cereals, select lower salt options. Foods high in potassium include bananas, apricots, mushrooms and spinach.
