At least two thirds of the blood pressure readings were successful for all participants, thus meeting the minimum requirements for ambulatory blood pressure recordings . None of the participants reported severely disrupted sleep. The mean number of blood pressure recordings over the 24 h period, during sleep and during wake were 61 ± 1 , 16 ± 1 , and 44 ± 1 , respectively. The average time of going to sleep was 23:43 h and the average time of rising was 07:28 h . The mean hours of sleep was 8.2 ± 2.2 h. Mean values for systolic BP, diastolic BP, MAP, and heart rate over 24 h and during sleep and times of wakefulness are displayed in Table 1. All cardiovascular variables were significantly lower during sleep than wakefulness . The mean MSBP values are displayed in Table 2. Linear regression analyses revealed no significant relationships between BRS and blood pressure averaged over the 24-h recording period, wakefulness or sleep .

If your blood pressure changes a lot overnight — either rising or falling — you may have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, a new study from Japan reports.
When systolic blood pressure jumps up by 20 mm/Hg or more during the night, the risk of heart disease and stroke goes up by 18% and the risk of heart failure increases by 25%.
If people consistently had higher blood pressure readings at night, but normal readings during the day, the risk of heart failure more than doubled. The researchers, writing in the journal Circulation, dubbed this a “riser pattern.”
On the other hand, for people with a drop in blood pressure of more than 20%, the study team noted a more than twice the risk of stroke. They called this group “extreme dippers.”
“Nighttime blood pressure is increasingly being recognized as a predictor of cardiovascular risk,” study lead author Dr. Kazuomi Kario said in a journal news release. He’s chair of cardiovascular medicine at the Jichi Medical University in Tochigi, Japan.
Dr. Raymond Townsend, an expert volunteer for the American Heart Association, said blood pressure is typically higher in the morning and lower in the afternoon and evening.
Compared to the overall daytime blood pressure pattern, “blood pressure is generally about 10% to 20% lower during sleep. Sleep time offers a relatively pure look at blood pressure. Most factors that influence blood pressure are minimized during sleep,” he explained.

Sympathetic Neural Control Of Blood Pressure In The Morning
There are some studies focusing on the circadian pattern of cardiovagal BRS. All of them demonstrated that a reduction of cardiovagal BRS occurred concomitant with BP increase in the morning, and it was suggested that cardiovagal BRS may be one of the determining factors for morning surge . Home blood pressure monitoring is well accepted among patients and has been recognized as superior to conventional blood pressure measurements in terms of refining hypertension diagnosis and control . It shows good reproducibility , ensured by blood pressure averages based on several readings performed over multiple days. In addition, it avoids white-coat effect, is free from observer dilution bias, and, compared to office BP, offers better prognostic value in predicting mortality and cardiovascular events .
There are diurnal variations in HBPM averages, and current guidelines recommend the BP measurements to be performed at least in the morning and in the evening . Why Would My Blood Pressure Only Spike In The Evening From 7 To 12 Pm
I Discovered I had a BP of 206/110 on Nov 27/2017. I have had borderline hypertension for the last 15 years which didn’t require any medication and my doctor couldn’t advise any lifestyle changes that I wasn’t already doing.
I’m 63, healthy, 6.1″ and 184lbs, at the gym 4 times a week, low sodium ovo/lacto vegetarian & daily Zen meditation practitioner for the last 44 years, drink plenty of water, non smoker, non drinker, good sleep regiment, now retired with a low stress lifestyle. My mom did had BP problems with many mini strokes so they think this is an inherited condition. Numerous blood and urine tests for me come back as all good.
My Doctor has now proscribed 4mg daily Coversyl since my high BP reading.. I have been measuring my own BP about 5 times a day since then. This medicine lowers my BP through most of my day to a good range but the systolic still rises by 30mg back to the hyper tension range from 7 – 12 pm every evening. Taking my medication at different times doesn’t change this. Taking a nap during the day makes no difference to it.
Does anyone have evening BP spikes or any possible explanations for why it consistently rises in the evening?

It may be because we tend to eat more in the evening, not really sure though. Your BP is very high, yet you seem to have a healthy enough lifestyle. Are you aware that a vit D deficiency can cause high blood pressure? maybe you could ask your doc to test you for a deficiency.
