    Mikkel Christensen

You cant measure blood pressure with Apple Watch, and I really doubt any other watch can do it.

    Joseph Cox

As mentioned above the Apple Watch and to my knowledge there isnt a watch device available that is capable of actually measuring blood pressure.

However, if you wish to record your blood pressure values and have them stored in your medical information in the Apple Health app just write a simple ShortCut which can be run from the watch which asks for the values you tell it the values and it adds the values to the Health app.

These values can be added to a spreadsheet if you which and you can even add onto ShortCuts with a third party app call Charty which will provide a graph .

An app is not going to allow to do something you dont have the hardware to support . there are plenty of BP apps out there but the Apple Watch can not monitor BP period regardless of what app you put on your phone. you may be able to find a 3rd party watch band with app to do what your looking for.

I bought a home blood pressure machine at the pharmacy. Just push a button and it takes your blood pressure on your upper arm. Then I enter the blood pressure reading into Apple Health app, manually into the blood pressure location on that app.

How Accurate Is Smart Watch Blood Pressure

The company says the technology is the first commercially available sensor to enable blood pressure readings throughout the day with the same accuracy as a cuff device. The announcement follows findings in January 2020 that its sensors could identify hypertension with 89% accuracy when used in hearing aids or earbuds.

Importing Blood Pressure Data To Apple Health

There are two ways you can synchronize data with Apple Health.

The first one is manual input. Apple Health app on an iPhone supports manual input of blood pressure from the Browse > Vitals > Blood Pressure screen.

I am sure that sounds annoying already. This is why there is the second option. If you use an app like Qardio, you can connect Apple Health in the settings and it will automate the data synchronization for you.

In addition to that, Qardio also supports manual input on the watch. This means if you add data manually in it, it will be shared to your Apple Health automatically.

Apples Blood Oxygen Is Not The Same As Blood Pressure

Just so you dont confuse yourself, blood oxygen is not the same as blood pressure. Apple currently supports blood oxygen level detection .

Blood Oxygen is the level of oxygen in the blood, whereas systolic and diastolic blood pressure refers to the pressure in blood vessels.

They are also calculated in different units. SpO2 is calculated in percentages while blood pressure is calculated in mmHg.

If you are wondering, there is a good correlation between blood oxygen and blood pressure. When the blood oxygen level is low, the pulmonary arteries get narrower. This squeezes the blood and results in increased blood pressure.

A blood oxygen level of 95-100% is considered normal. If it drops below 90%, you should be concerned and are supposed to contact a medical person as soon as possible.

I don̢t know if it̢s because it enables you to do cool things like texting from your shower or paying just by swiping your wrist in the air. Maybe it̢s the fashionable positioning that Apple created by placing it for display along with the biggest fashion luxury brands on Paris fashion week, or maybe it̢s just the ̢Apple magic̢ Рbut whatever it is it just works and I want one.Yesterday, I went by the Apple store and found myself staring at the red banded golden watch from the limited edition for 20 minutes, even though there is no chance I can buy it . The Next Apple Watch Will Miss Out On A Blood Pressure Sensor But Future Generations Will Be Capable Of Monitoring Blood Sugar And Blood Pressure Levels

Earlier this week, reports emerged that quality issues had delayed the Watch Series 7, Apple’s next set of smartwatches. However, the Watch Series 7 could miss out on a feature that has been rumoured for a while.

According to , there is ‘no chance’ that the Apple Watch Series 7 will feature a blood pressure sensor, contrary to Nikkei Asia’s point of view. As it stands, the Apple Watch Series 7 appears to offer hardly new health-related features compared to the Watch Series 6. By contrast, the Galaxy Watch4 series can already measure blood pressure and body composition, with some software-related caveats.

However, The Wall Street Journal asserts that Apple will set up in this regard from next year. Apparently, Apple is developing a way to measure body temperature to aid fertility planning, and is revising how its smartwatches monitor irregular heartbeats.

Blood pressure monitoring is on the way too, as is the option of tracking sleep disorders via a SpO2 sensor. Similarly, Apple hopes to integrate a blood glucose sensor in future Watch Series devices, but this could be a few years away from being commercially viable.

According To A Report By The Wall Street Journal Apple Is Planning To Add More Health Features To Its Watch Including A Feature To Track Blood Pressure And A Wrist

As wearable-makers look to compete on health features, Apple is reportedly looking to add a blood pressure and thermometer feature to its watches. According to the Wall Street Journal, the built-in thermometer would be for fertility planning, and could be available as early as 2022.

Apple isnt the only company working on these features. In Fitbits Sense smartwatch, the company added a skin temperature sensor and a new ECG app, which was cleared by the FDA to detect atrial fibrillation last year.

Fitbit is also studying its smartwatches ability to measure blood pressure using pulse arrival time, which measures how long it takes for blood to reach a persons wrist after their heart beats. But wrist-based devices still arent proven to be as accurate as upper arm blood pressure monitors, and pose their own challenges, including getting people to hold their wrist at heart level.

Another company, Samsung, is using its optical heart rate sensor for blood pressure monitoring, but it still has to be calibrated using a traditional blood pressure measurement. The feature isnt yet FDA cleared.

Apple has some more features planned for the future, according to the Wall Street Journal. In the shorter term, the company is also looking to update its features for detecting arrhythmias and sleep tracking. And in the longer term, it has ambitions for its smartwatches to detect sleep apnea and diabetes.

Apple could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
